Have you experienced any damage to your home in the last year or so, whether it be water damage or structural damage? Have you ever considered home elevation? Home elevation is when your house is raised from its foundation and placed upon a more elevated structure such as a heightened slab or upright pylons. Home elevation is a complex process, but the final outcome is always worth it.

There are a few reasons homeowners choose to elevate, or raise, their homes. The number one reason being to avoid the risk of flooding, especially here in Louisiana. New Orleans and its surrounding areas are extremely susceptible to flooding, so having your home raised helps reduce the chances of flooding significantly. Other reasons people want their homes elevated include giving their home a better support structure, adding a more striking visual attractiveness, and of course, safety precautions.

Elevating your home can be quite rewarding for you and your family. It gives your home a whole new aesthetic appeal that can’t be quite replicated with a new paint job or the like. Whether you would like to raise your home just a few inches, a foot, or a whole story, we will work with you every step of the way to make sure that you are receiving the elevated home of your dreams. If you have experienced the plethora of hurricanes and spells of flooding that have plagued the Greater New Orleans Region over the past few decades then you are aware of the many benefits that come along with having your home elevated. It has been proven to save you and your loved ones’ time, money, and heartache.

We pride ourselves on our level of craftsmanship and professionalism. Let us be the ones to assist you in elevating your home; our name is Home Team Elevation after all!

FLOOD MITIGATION ASSISTANCE (FMA) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know if my property is considered a Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) property?
The requirements are: if you have 4 or more separate flood claim payments of $5000 or more (including building and contents) and the cumulative total exceeds $20,000 OR 2 or more separate flood claim payments (building payments only) where the total value of the payments exceeds the current market value of the structure. In either case, 2 of the claim payments must be within 10 years of each other and more than 10 days apart.

How can I find out for sure if I am a Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) property?
You will need to call your local floodplain manager. See link above for contact information.

What is the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant program?
The Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program is an annual program that any parish can apply to for funds to elevate homes. The deadline for parishes to submit applications for grant funds is usually in August but we strongly recommend that you call your floodplain manager to express interest in the early spring. Call him/her back periodically to check on your status.

How much will the FMA grant pay and how much will I have to pay?
The grant program will pay up to 100% of the contract. If you received the Road Home elevation incentive or ICC funds, the full amount of those awards is put towards the contract and the grant program will pay the balance.

How long will it take for the grant to get funded?
It usually takes about 12-24 months after the grant application is submitted to get approval.

*With the passage of the Biggert-Waters Act, Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) grants are now Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grants.
